NVIDIA SELF-DRIVING CAR PLATFORM WILL BE USED IN VOLVOS NEXT GENERATION OF CARS

Business News. Volvo pronounced that for its next generation of vehicles it will use NVIDIAS Drive AGX Xavier computer. The hardware pronounced by NVIDIA in September is able to power full autonomy within controlled areas (Level 4 autonomy), but Volvo will launch it with Level 2+ capabilities, pushing it on a similar level as current Tesla models.

In the early 2020s they are expected to start production. To keep an eye on the driver as well as to monitor the vehicles environment on all sides NVIDIAS platform will be used. NVIDIA mentioned earlier that the software is capable to track drivers head and eye movements to know when they may not have noticed something in their environment. The system is even clever enough to read drivers lips.

To partner with NVIDIA to integrate autonomous driving technologies into their vehicles Volvo is latest in the series of Car manufacturers. NVIDIAS Drive IX platform will be used by Volkswagen as announced earlier this year. NVIDIA hardware is used by UBER for its own self-driving car tests (though NVIDIA marked that it wasnt using its self-driving car platform).
